Pop tarts are such a great little treat! And I am not talking about those store bought ones, I am talking about those fresh baked ones. The ones where you made the crust, adding the filling, pinched the ends. Those pop tarts are amazing! Now, you should go bake them, so you know what I am talking about.

Makes about: 7 pop tarts
Takes About: 3 hours
Difficulty: 1 out of 5 (just takes time)
Prep:
No prep at this time! Ingredients:
Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cups (223 grams) frozen unsalted butter
2 tablespoons milk
1 egg
Filling for Fudge Pop Tarts:
Chocolate Spread
Filling for Jam Pop Tarts:
Jam (any flavor you like)
Filling for S'mores
Chocolate Spread
Mini Marshmallows
Filling for Brown Sugar and Cinnamon:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Cinnamon Glaze:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1-2 teaspoon milk
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Chocolate Glaze:
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1-2 teaspoons milk
1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder
Regular Glaze:
1/4 cup powder sugar
1-2 teaspoon milk
1 drop food coloring
Instructions:
Step 1 - Start Dough
In a large bowl, add in the 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Step 2 - Grate the Butter
Grate the 1 cup of frozen butter and add it into the flour mixture. Using your hands, massage the butter and flour together until it comes together and when you pinch it together, it sticks together, but breaks apart easily.
Do not massage it for too long, because we don't want to melt the butter or warm it up. Step 3 - Add in Egg and Milk
Add the 1 egg and 2 tablespoons of milk into the flour and butter mixture and massage everything together until it starts to stick together.
Step 4 - Package and Refrigerate
Once the dough starts sticking together, split the dough in half and press it together into a disk. Wrap each disk into plastic warp or bees wrap and pop it into the fridge for about 30 minutes or until cold. Step 5 - Make the Pop Tart Tops and Bottoms Once the dough is cold, take one disk out and place it on a well floured counter and roll it out until it is about 1/8 inch thick rectangle.
Cut the edges off to to create a straight rectangle and then cut the rectangle in half and then cut it into thirds.
(Sorry for my goofy phone photo, but I wanted you to see what I was talking about...haha)

Step 6 - Egg Wash! In a small bowl, whisk together the 1 egg and the 1 tablespoon of milk until well combined.
Then!
Transfer 3 of the pop tart pieces (bottoms) to a parchment lined baking sheet and using a pastry brush, brush the bottoms with the egg wash. Step 7 - Fill the Shells Using one of the fillings from the ingredient list, place about 1 tablespoon of filling into the middle leaving about 1 inch of space around the edge.
Step 8 - Add the Tops
Place the tops onto the bottoms, but carefully. What you will do is start on one side and pinch that closed and then work your way up the sides and the carefully pinch the top closed.
Watch the video I have attached above at 11 minutes for a visual.
Step 9 - Repeat with Second Disk
Repeat steps 5 through 8 with the second disk of dough.
Step 10 - Egg Wash 2
Egg wash the tops of your pop tarts, then use a fork to pinch the outsides of the pop tart closed by dipping the fork into the egg wash and pressing the prongs into the dough. This is required to keep the filling inside.
Once done with the crimping, poke a few holes in the top with a sharp knife. Step 11 - Preheat the Oven!
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (172 degrees C) and while your oven is preheating, place the pop tarts in the fridge to cool. Step 12 - Bake Once the oven is preheating, pop the pop tarts into the oven to bake for about 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Once baked, pull them out and let them cool completely on the baking sheet before adding the glaze. Step 13 - Add Glaze
Once the pop tarts are cooled, make the glaze. The glaze is super easy. Just mix the glaze ingredients, and if it seems to thin, add more powdered sugar and if it seems to thick, add a little extra milk.
Then using a small spoon, spoon the glaze over top the pop starts, and then add your sprinkles immediately.
Step 14 - Wait and Enjoy! Once your glaze has set, enjoy!
