About MLBC
and Me!
Hello there!
My name is Melissa and as I am sure you know, I am a self-taught baker.
However, I have not always been a die-hard baker.
A few years ago (2017) I would wake up, go to class, do homework, go to work, go home, do homework, go to sleep, and repeat.
I was living life day to day, but was not really "living" life.
I am sure you have heard that before.
But then, one day, I decided I was going to travel. And I don't mean, "one day I am going to travel" and then 6 years later I am still going to "travel", but instead, I gave myself 1 year to save money and do something.
One year later, I was in Australia with one of my great friends and it was the best choice I had ever made.
I was meeting new people, laughing, hiking, and enjoying life.
I realized one thing; life should never be about "living the 'perfect' life"; instead, I wanted to live my perfect life.
I know that is corny, but honestly, that was when everything changed. I knew I needed to keep doing what I wanted and not what I thought everyone else wanted me to do.
That was when Melissa's Little Baking Company (MLBC) was born.
Also, side note, but a very important side note; that was when I met my now boyfriend Michael.
Coming back to Seattle Washington, my home, from Australia I was shocked. It is so easy to slip back into what I knew as my day to day life.
Wake up, work, go home, sleep, wake up, work, go home, sleep. Repeat, Repeat, Repeat.
But, I was determined to keep working on my baking and make choices that were good for me.
(2019) I am no longer just baking. Now that MLBC has been growing, baking has become more than just tossing something in the oven. It has become a way for me to connect with people and to share with them; learning how to take photos and getting advice from friends; learning how to write recipes; and also learning flavor combinations.
And I absolutely love it all!
I love making a mess, failing and finding how to fix it, succeeding and eating the entire bake, and cleaning up to be able to create again.
And I am not joking, I love cleaning up the mess. There is a satisfaction of getting flour everywhere and then cleaning it all up.
I know, weird - deal with it.
Now - I have moved to Germany to be with Michael and I am focusing even more on my baking.
Instead of working full time and baking until 2am and repeating, I am baking full time and learning German on the side.
Life changed a lot in 3 years and I know it is just going to keep changing and I am really really excited!
I can also honestly say, I am excited to share this with you too.
Melissa's Little Baking Company is my dream and I know this dream will continue to grow. The final dream you ask? I can't say I don't know. I don't even know if I want to know the end.
However, I believe that every time we take a step forward, we can see so much more of the path ahead. Or maybe it gets a little blurry, but that is okay. We just have to keep walking, or skipping, or doing whatever tickles your fancy.
I can tell you, I definitely could have not told you 3 years ago that I would be planning to move to Germany, let alone living in Germany.
The one thing I do know though, these stepping stones includes a cute little bakery where you and I can sit and relax and enjoy a bourbon chocolate cupcake or a large slice of pie.
That is where we are headed.
