What a beautifully flavored pie that is also gorgeous in color.

Takes About: 2 hours (including making the crust)
Makes: 1 pie
Difficulty: 1 out of 5
Prep:
Make the pie crust - you can find a delicious recipe here - Pie Dough
Be sure to make the crust and let it sit in the refrigerator while making the filling.
Ingredients:
Pie Crust
1 1/2 cups red wine
2 teabags with multiple spices (clove, cinnamon, orange, anise) - preferably GluFix, a German tea blend.
5 large applies - mixed (granny smith, golden, honey crisp) - peeled and core - cut into 12 slices
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup of sugar
Instructions:
- Step 1 - Boil the Wine and Spices
Pour the 1 1/2 cups of wine and add the 2 teabags into a medium sauce pan and bring to a simmer on low-medium heat until the wine has reduced by at at least half.

- Step 2 - Slice the Apples
Peel and core 5 apples and slice them into 12 pieces.

- Step 3 - Add Remaining Ingredients
Once the wine has reduced, add the sliced apples, the 2 tablespoons of honey, and the 1/2 cup of sugar.

Mix everything together until well combined.

- Step 4 - Preheat the Oven
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Step 5 - Simmer
Place a lid over the apples and let the apples simmer, mixing occasionally, on low heat for 15-20 minutes and then remove the lid and continue to simmer for another 15-20 minutes or until the applies are tender.

Once the apples are ready, let them cool completely before filling the pie shell.
- Step 6 - Prebake the Shell
If the pie shell is not ready, roll out the dough and fill a pie shell and trim off the excess dough leaving about 1/2 inch on the edge.

Place the pie shell in the oven for about 15 minutes or until it starts to turn brown.
Once baked, pull the shell out of the oven and poke a few holes into the bottom using a fork.
Keep the oven on.
- Step 7 - Fill the Pie Shell
Once the apples have cooled, spoon them into the shell leaving the excess liquid in the sauce pan.
Do not squeeze the wine out of the apples, just spoon them directly into the pie shell.

- Step 8 - Add the Topping of the Pie
Using the excess pie dough, add a cute topping.

- Step 9 - Bake
Place the pie in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown.

- Step 10 - Enjoy!
This pie tastes fantastic on its own, but add a glass of wine and we are in heaven!
